What is PDF Grade?

PDF Grade is a tool for teachers and educators to grade scanned student answer sheets fast. Upload the answer sheet PDFs (one per student or one big batch), define the answer key, and we mark each answer correct or incorrect, calculate scores, and produce a grade report. Perfect for multiple-choice exams, fill-in-the-blanks, or any standardized test where answers are predictable.

Built for real classrooms: handle 30+ students at once, OCR scanned forms (handwriting works for clearly written letters), generate per-student PDFs with the grade marked, and export a CSV summary of all scores. Free for schools and individual teachers.

Summary spreadsheet of every student's score, every answer, every question. Open in Excel for analysis.

Free for educators

No premium tier, no per-student fee. Use as much as you need.

Frequently asked questions

What types of exams work?

Multiple-choice (A/B/C/D bubbles), single-letter fill-in (block printing), short numerical answers. Open-ended essays are not auto-gradable.

How accurate is the OCR for handwriting?

Block printing in pencil reaches 90%+ on clean scans. Cursive drops to 60-70%. Always spot-check before reporting grades.

Can I customize point values per question?

Yes. By default each question is worth 1 point. You can set custom weights — e.g., question 1 worth 5 points, others worth 1.

What about student privacy?

Files processed in memory, deleted after download. No data shared. We recommend redacting names if your local privacy laws require.
